The first-ever Best in Grass project in Michigan was certainly one for the books. There were 60 brands featured and 180+ product entries across 14 categories culminating in about 330,000 grams of cannabis including flower, concentrates, vape pens, edibles, and, of course we can’t forget one of Michigan’s favorite categories that we rarely see anywhere else, the Moon Rocks category.
Cultivators and processors put their hearts into creating these products, which was combined with 3 weeks of solid work in Detroit with Best in Grass partners at Trucenta to build 2,600 Judge Kits that were then distributed to 25 stores across the Mitten, from the Upper Peninsula to the Indiana border.
The Judge Kits were open to the public, where people from all walks of life – the heady boys to the canna-curious – come out to grab kits and vote for the Best of Michigan. After 2 months of judging, the winners were ready to be crowned.
A cocktail-attire, red-carpet affair at the Royal Oak Music Theatre shone the spotlight on deserving brands who have given their blood, sweat, and tears to provide quality products to Michigan consumers. The event featured live snakes from Legasea, free smells from the likes of Heavyweight Heads and Freshy Fine, and a head-bopping performance by Detroit’s finest, Willy J Peso. One team even showed up in a limo ready for their close-ups on the red carpet! Although Best in Grass’ first project out of the gate was largely a success, it did not come without hurdles and lessons learned, which the Best in Grass team plans to use to improve future competitions and awards shows. Best in Grass would like to extend a huge thank you to all of our partners, sponsors, and Judges for believing in us for the first project as a new company. We can’t wait to get back to Michigan next year and do it even bigger.
